Jodie (she/her), the artist behind @missdurianne, is a Chinese-American woman who grew up in a Sino-Burmese household. She is deeply inspired by both storytelling, fortune telling, and nature. When she was young, her dad taught her how to do I-Ching as a way to meditate on herself and guide her in uncertain times. At the same time, as a child she also took tarot classes at a local community college for fun.
A lot of what she does can be described with this silly blend of mysticism and traditionalism, and Chinese and American. Missdurianne as a brand is the manifestation of her eclectic passions. The Kitchen Thief is a cookbook collaboration between her and her father to celebrate Sino-Burmese cuisine. Her recent Day and Night collection, which encompasses hats, notebooks, and stickers, is all about long distance relationships and gift giving. One of her longtime favorite collections is her RPG Frogs, which are inspired by Japanese RPGs and Western TTRPGs.
Other designs Jodi has are inspired by LGBT pride, love languages, and tarot cards. Her brand features a range of styles she likes to do, whether it’s her more detailed painting style or her cuter graphical mascots.
