Florence Turnour specializes in woodblock printing, but dabbles in all manners of printmaking, including silkscreen, risograph, mono-printing, and eco-printing. She designs modular woodblocks, which she rearranges to make a variety of designs, ranging from 6”x8” to 16”x20”. So far, she has three sets with over 50 blocks each, including two geometric sets, one midcentury modern and another inspired by Islamic tilings, and an architectural, cathedral-inspired set. Florence uses a laser cutter to engrave and cut her woodblocks, and to build tools to help with printmaking. Engineering tools is central to her creative process. Each new project leads to an innovation in the tools she creates, and each new tool leads to ideas for new projects.
